VPNs by Price: Top 20 Affordable Options & Average Costs

When picking a VPN service, “cost” is very important, even if the CEO stays in her office.

With so many options available, it’s crucial to avoid wasting money. You need to balance features with cost to find the best service.

This guide on VPNs by price helps you find affordable yet good VPN services that will protect your online identity at a fair price.

At vpn by price, we have listed the top 20 VPNs along with their prices.

1. NordVPN by Price

When we compare VPNs, features and performance are most important to us. We tested over 60 VPNs recently, and NordVPN was the best. It offered the best privacy, online protection, and features, earning a high rating of 9.7 out of 10.

But NordVPN is more expensive than some other options like Surfshark and Private Internet Access. Price is important when choosing a VPN. So, is NordVPN worth the extra cost? Let’s first look at the subscription prices and what they include.

Subscription Costs

  • 1-month subscription: $12.99
  • 1-year subscription: $59.88
  • 2-year subscription: $81.36

NordVPN also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can pay with major credit cards, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, UnionPay, ACH Transfer, and cryptocurrencies.

NordVPN Features

NordVPN includes features to protect users from identity theft, data breaches, and fraud. One feature, Threat Protection Pro, was recently named an effective tool against phishing by AV-Comparatives, a recognition usually given to antivirus software.

NordVPN Subscription Plans

NordVPN provides three subscription options: Standard, Plus, and Complete.

  • Standard Plan: This is the cheapest plan. It includes only the VPN service and lets you use NordVPN’s apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux, as well as on smart TVs like Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android TV.
  • Plus Plan: This includes NordVPN and NordPass, a password manager. If you don’t have a password manager, this plan is a good deal since NordPass usually costs $3 to $5 per month. The Plus Plan costs about $1 more per month than the Standard Plan.
  • Complete Plan: This plan combines NordVPN, NordPass, and NordLocker, which is a secure cloud backup with 1 TB of encrypted storage.

Prices for Each Plan

Plan1 Month1 Year2 Years
Standard$12.99$59.88$95.76
Plus$13.99$71.88$119.76
Complete$14.99$83.88$143.76

The monthly plans seem cheaper, but long-term plans are more cost-effective. For instance, the two-year Standard plan costs $95.76 total, averaging around $4 per month, which is much cheaper than the $12.99 monthly plan.

NordVPN is still cheaper than many other VPNs. For example, ExpressVPN’s one-year plan costs $100. With NordVPN’s two-year plan, you get two years for the same price.

You also have the option to cancel within 30 days and get a full refund if you’re not happy. We tested this and got our money back.

Choosing the Right Plan

Choose the plan based on what you need. All plans offer the same VPN features. Consider the Plus or Complete plans if you need a password manager or secure cloud storage.

Deals and Discounts

NordVPN occasionally offers deals, which can lower the price further. To find the best deals, visit NordVPN’s deals page. Look out for special occasions like the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and NordVPN’s anniversary in February.

NordVPN often provides extra free months during holiday discounts, sometimes up to four months. Students can get a 15% discount on a two-year plan through Student Beans and Youth Discount (or Descuento Estudiante in the E.U. or South America).

Even Without Discounts

NordVPN offers good value even without discounts. Its prices are competitive with other VPNs like Bitdefender. While ExpressVPN costs about $8.32 per month, NordVPN’s two-year plan is much cheaper.

NordVPN provides a range of features, including:

  • Fast internet with no throttling or bandwidth limits

Free Trial

NordVPN doesn’t offer a traditional free trial, but you can try it risk-free with the 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’re unhappy, you can cancel within 30 days for a full refund. Note that purchases from the Apple app store cannot be refunded by NordVPN; you would need to contact Apple directly.

If you need to cancel:

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Go to the Dashboard tab.
  3. Click the Menu symbol.

Server Locations

Nordvpn

NordVPN is a popular choice due to its strong features and reasonable pricing, especially if you commit to a longer-term plan. It provides excellent security and a broad range of features. For a detailed look at NordVPN’s benefits, check our full review.

2. ProtonVPN by Price

ProtonVPN is known for its strong focus on privacy. It started in 2014 with ProtonMail, an email service that encrypts messages. This service became popular among journalists, activists, and whistleblowers. Three years later, ProtonVPN was introduced.

ProtonVPN shares the same goal as ProtonMail: to keep user privacy safe. While ProtonMail protects emails, ProtonVPN secures all your online activities. This is what most VPNs do.

We tested ProtonVPN and found it’s not the easiest VPN for beginners. However, it is very good for security and privacy, similar to NordVPN, which is one of our top VPN picks. But is it worth the price? We’ll discuss ProtonVPN’s pricing and features to help you decide if it’s right for you. Let’s begin.

Contract Costs

Here are the monthly costs for different contract lengths:

  • 1 month: $5 – $30
  • 1 year: $4 – $24
  • 2 years: $3.29 – $19.96

What Are the Subscription Plans?

ProtonVPN has two subscription levels:

  1. Proton VPN Plus: This plan includes only the VPN service.
  2. Proton Unlimited: This plan includes all Proton products, such as ProtonMail, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass.

The price difference between these plans is small, so Proton Unlimited is a better deal if you need Proton’s other services. Here’s a breakdown of the prices:

Plan1 Month1 Year2 Years
Proton VPN Plus$9.99$5.99/month ($71.88 total)$4.99/month ($119.76 total)
Proton Unlimited$12.99$9.99/month ($119.88 total)$7.99/month ($191.76 total)

Proton often has discounts during special events, like Black Friday.

Proton’s pricing is now simpler than before. Previously, there were three different VPN plans with varying features and server access. Now, all plans have the same VPN features, including IP address changes, multihop protection, and limited malware protection by blocking ads and harmful sites.

In comparison, ProtonVPN is a more affordable option than ExpressVPN, which costs at least $8.32 per month for its annual plans. ProtonVPN Plus is about $2 cheaper. While ExpressVPN offers more servers and a VPN router called Aircove, ProtonVPN includes more digital safety tools like ProtonMail.

How ProtonVPN’s Pricing Compares

ProtonVPN is reasonably priced but not the cheapest option. It has servers in 67 countries, fewer than some of the top VPNs. Before buying, compare ProtonVPN with NordVPN, which is our highest-rated VPN, to ensure you get the best deal for your money.

Is There A Free Version?

ProtonVPN offers a free version, which is not just a limited-time trial but a permanent free service. This version does not have the same speed or features as the paid plans, but it’s completely free.

The free version allows you to test ProtonVPN, although it has some limits. You get only one VPN connection per account, which works for a single PC. It also has only three server locations and slower speeds than the paid service.

Here are the details of the free vs. paid plans:

FeaturesFree PlanPaid Plans
Server Locations361
Number of Servers26400-1,418
Number of Devices12-10
Secure Core ServersNoYes
SpeedLowerUp to 10 Gbps
P2P/BitTorrent ServersNoYes
Netflix and StreamingNoYes

The free version is suitable for basic use but not for heavy internet activities. The three server locations are Japan, the United States, and The Netherlands.

A Bit More About ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN is committed to protecting civil liberties. It was created by the same team that started ProtonMail at CERN in Geneva. They aimed to protect activists and journalists from government overreach. This mission adds to its trustworthiness.

Some of Our Favorite Features

Here are a few key features that make ProtonVPN stand out:

  • Safe Data Governance: ProtonVPN doesn’t log your internet usage. Being based in Switzerland, it is not forced to hand over data to governments.
  • High Speeds: With speeds up to 10 Gbps, ProtonVPN is fast enough for streaming and other high-bandwidth activities.
  • VPN Protocol Options: ProtonVPN offers three VPN protocols: OpenVPN, IKEv2, and WireGuard, each with its strengths.
  • Free Version: The free version is a good way to test the service with no risk before upgrading.
  • Data Security and Split Tunneling: ProtonVPN has Secure Core architecture for extra protection and allows split tunneling to route some traffic through your ISP and some through the VPN.
  • Streaming and Torrenting: It supports international Netflix libraries and torrenting without issues.

ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN is a premium VPN service, with higher prices but also good discounts for long-term contracts. The 30-day money-back guarantee and free version allow you to test it before making a long-term commitment. ProtonVPN provides fast speeds and strong privacy protection, making it a reliable option, even if it costs a bit more than some competitors.

3. ExpressVPN by Price

Many people know ExpressVPN as a top VPN service. It is the #1 VPN in 2024, offering very fast speeds, great streaming options, and strong security. But many wonder about the cost of ExpressVPN and its monthly or yearly price.

ExpressVPN offers several subscription plans, and the price depends on the plan you choose. We have already discussed VPN costs in another article, so you might want to read that too.

Today, we will focus on ExpressVPN’s pricing. We will also show you how to get the best price and explain some of its main features. If you are thinking about buying it, this article will help you a lot.

ExpressVPN Pricing: Detailed Price Breakdown

So, how much does ExpressVPN cost in 2024? The price depends on how you access their website. If you visit their site directly, you might find that the annual plan seems quite expensive compared to other options.

However, you can get a much better price through our website. We offer an EXCLUSIVE discount for the annual plan.

Get an Exclusive Discount on ExpressVPN

To see the price through our site, click the red button above (or on the links below). You will be taken to the page with all the plans, which include:

  • An exclusive annual plan with a 49% discount and 3 FREE months for just $6.67 per month.
  • A 6-month plan for $9.99 per month.
  • A 1-month plan for $12.95 per month.

In our review, we found that the monthly and 6-month plans are quite expensive, so we don’t usually recommend them. However, the annual plan with a 49% discount is a great deal. With the discount, you pay just $6.67 per month and get 3 free months.

This can save you a lot of money. Instead of paying $12.95 each month (which adds up to nearly $195 for 15 months), you will pay $99.95 for the same period. This means you save almost 50%.

How Can I Pay for It?

Now that we know the cost of ExpressVPN, let’s look at payment methods. The price you see is what you will pay since there are no extra taxes or fees. For example, if you want to know the cost of ExpressVPN in the USA, it is the same.

ExpressVPN accepts many payment methods. You can use a credit card, PayPal, Bitcoin, and other options like Sofort, GiroPay, and UnionPay. Just choose your plan through our website, enter your email, and proceed with payment.

Once your payment is complete, you can start using ExpressVPN with unlimited traffic, fast speeds, and all the features we will discuss soon.

How Do I Cancel ExpressVPN?

Some people find ExpressVPN expensive, especially when compared to other VPNs like Astrill VPN or Hotspot Shield.

If you decide to cancel, it’s easy. You can contact customer support through live chat and ask to cancel your subscription. They will stop your subscription, and you won’t be able to use the service anymore.

If you want to stop payments but continue using the service, cancel your subscription in advance to avoid future charges. For example, if you have the annual plan and are in your 5th month, you don’t need to stop using it immediately. Just contact ExpressVPN and tell them you don’t want to pay for another year.

They will cancel the automatic payment at the end of your annual plan, but you can still use the service until then. You can also cancel manually from your account on the site, but contacting support is often easier.

ExpressVPN’s customer support is quick and helpful, usually responding in 10-15 seconds, so the cancellation process is fast.

Can I Try ExpressVPN for Free?

Now that you know the cost of ExpressVPN, let’s discuss its money-back guarantee. There is no free trial, but you can use it risk-free for 30 days. Each subscription plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, including the 1-month plan.

This means you can get a refund within the first 30 days if you are not satisfied, as long as you do not abuse the policy. If you buy it, get a refund, then buy it again, you might not get a refund a second time.

If you are happy with the pricing and want to try it for the first time, you can request a refund before the first 30 days end. Simply contact customer support using the 24/7 live chat on their site and ask for a refund. This way, you get your money back, making your use of ExpressVPN effectively free for up to 30 days.

ExpressVPN Price and Features Overview

One great thing about ExpressVPN is that all plans offer the same features. So, whether you choose the annual plan with a 49% discount or another plan, you get the same features.

Here are some key features of ExpressVPN:

  • Servers in 160 Locations: ExpressVPN has 3,000 servers in 94 countries and 160 locations. This allows you to bypass geo-blocks and access content from around the world.
  • Blazing-Fast Speeds: ExpressVPN is the fastest VPN, thanks to its Lightway protocol. It has servers with speeds of 10 Gbps and plans to upgrade to 40 Gbps, making it excellent for streaming and browsing.
  • Strong Security and Privacy: It offers AES-256 encryption, a kill switch, split tunneling, and IP/DNS leak protection. It uses RAM-only servers and has been audited by PwC, KPMG, and Cure53 for security.
  • Unlimited Streaming: ExpressVPN unblocks many streaming services, including 15+ Netflix libraries, BBC iPlayer, and Hotstar. You can watch content from different countries without any extra setup.
  • Torrenting & P2P Support: It supports torrenting on all servers and ensures your privacy while doing so.
  • Ease of Use on All Devices: ExpressVPN is easy to use with one-click connections and works on many devices, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. You can protect up to five devices with one account.

ExpressVPN Price: The Conclusion

If you just want the short answer about ExpressVPN’s cost, the best deal is through our website. Click the red button below to get an exclusive 49% discount and 3 free months with the 12-month plan.

ExpressVPN Discount

This deal lowers the price to $6.67 per month or $99.95 for the year, giving you 15 months of service. This is much cheaper than the monthly plan at nearly $13 per month. We hope this helps you get ExpressVPN and save money.

4. CyberGhost VPN by Price

There are many VPNs available, and most offer similar basic features. When testing VPNs, we look for what makes each one unique. CyberGhost stands out with its large network of 11,000 servers in 100 countries and its headquarters in Romania, making it a good choice for privacy-focused users. We also appreciate that CyberGhost is one of the most affordable VPNs.

But is CyberGhost the best choice for online privacy? It is popular and ranks among the top 10 VPNs. Let’s dive into the details of CyberGhost subscriptions to help you decide if it’s right for you. It may not be the best fit for everyone, but CyberGhost is a solid option.

CyberGhost’s Pricing vs. The Competition

First, let’s compare. NordVPN, Surfshark, and Private Internet Access are currently the top-rated VPNs on our site. CyberGhost is cheaper than these, but it also has fewer features. For example, it doesn’t offer multihopping. The lower price reflects this. To see which VPN might be better for you, check out our CyberGhost vs. NordVPN comparison.

CyberGhost Subscription Options

Here’s how much CyberGhost costs based on the subscription length:

  • 1 Month: $12.99
  • 6 Months: $6.99 per month ($41.94 total)
  • 2 Years + 2 Months Free: $2.19 per month ($56.97 total)

CyberGhost’s pricing is straightforward. Unlike Surfshark, which has multiple subscription tiers, CyberGhost offers three options: monthly, semi-annual, and biennial (every 2 years).

The two-year plan gives the best rate, but you must pay the full amount upfront, which is $56.97 for two years plus two free months. This averages about $2.19 per month. There is a 45-day money-back guarantee, so it’s almost risk-free to buy this plan.

The monthly and six-month plans are more expensive but offer more flexibility. For instance, the six-month plan is good for about a semester of VPN use without committing to two years. The $12.99 monthly plan lets you subscribe and cancel on a month-to-month basis. The two-year plan is the best deal financially, costing $15 more than the six-month plan or $5 more than four monthly payments.

You can also buy add-ons like the CyberGhost Security Suite for $1 per month or $24 for two years. This suite includes antivirus protection and an updater for Windows users. However, we don’t recommend it because it’s not as good as dedicated antivirus software from top brands. CyberGhost focuses on VPNs, so it’s better to get malware protection from a specialized provider.

What A CyberGhost Subscription Includes

All CyberGhost plans offer the same features. They allow you to connect to one of CyberGhost’s 11,000 servers, encrypt your traffic, and hide your IP address. Here are the details:

  • Automatic kill switch
  • Shared IP address for better anonymity
  • Audited “no-logs” policy
  • OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN protocols
  • 256-bit AES (OpenVPN) and ChaCha20 (WireGuard) encryption
  • Access to streaming services worldwide (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc.)
  • Anonymous torrenting
  • DNS, WebRTC, and IP leak protection
  • 11,000 servers in 100 countries
  • Seven simultaneous connections
  • 24/7 live chat and email support

One area for improvement is the limit on simultaneous connections. You can only connect up to seven devices at the same time. This is sufficient for most users, but if you have more devices, consider Surfshark, which offers unlimited connections.

Referral Program

CyberGhost has a referral program to make it slightly cheaper or even free. Here’s how it works: As a paying customer, you get a referral link. For each new user who subscribes through your link, both of you get 30 days of free access. You need an active subscription to participate, and you can refer up to three people. This means you could get three months of free access by referring three friends.

Payment Options

CyberGhost offers several payment options, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, and Bitcoin. We used a credit card, but for more security and anonymity, we recommend using PayPal or cryptocurrency. PayPal hides your card details, and cryptocurrency payments are harder to trace.

Is There a Free Trial or Money-Back Guarantee?

You can test CyberGhost risk-free. Here are the trial periods based on your device:

  • Windows or macOS: 24-hour free trial
  • Android: 3-day free trial (via Google Play)
  • iOS: 7-day free trial (via the App Store)

If you decide to buy a subscription, CyberGhost offers a 45-day money-back guarantee for long-term plans (one year or two years). For monthly subscriptions, the guarantee is only 15 days. To get a refund, you must buy your subscription from CyberGhost’s website.

How to Cancel Your Subscription

If you’re not happy with CyberGhost, you can cancel easily:

  1. Log in to your CyberGhost account.
  2. Go to “My Subscriptions” on the dashboard.
  3. Click “Turn Auto-Renewal Off.”

Your subscription will remain active until the end of the paid period. You won’t get a prorated refund unless you are within the money-back guarantee period. Make sure to use the guarantee if you are eligible and not satisfied.

Our Favorite Features

Here are some standout features of CyberGhost:

  • Headquarters in Romania: Romania is not part of major surveillance alliances, so CyberGhost is less likely to be forced to share data.
  • Great Customer Service: 24/7 live chat with responsive support specialists.
  • Affordability: At $2.19 per month on the two-year plan, CyberGhost is affordable compared to many competitors.
  • Kill Switch: Shuts down your internet connection if the VPN fails.
  • Expansive Network: Over 11,000 servers in 100 countries, providing many options for connectivity.
  • Strong Encryption: Uses AES-256 and ChaCha20 encryption.
  • Shared and Anonymized IP Addresses: Protects your online activity.
  • Ability to Torrent: Easy anonymous torrenting.
  • Netflix Compatibility: Works with Netflix and other streaming services.
  • Wide Compatibility: Works on various devices, browsers, and gaming systems.
  • Seven Devices: Connect up to seven devices simultaneously.

Privacy

CyberGhost is a no-logs VPN, meaning it doesn’t track your browsing data. Deloitte has verified this through an audit. However, CyberGhost does collect some anonymized data, such as IP addresses, and personal information like names and payment details. It tracks which country you browse from and other basic information but not your specific online activities.

CyberGhost

CyberGhost is a strong VPN option, offering essential features and a vast server network. With prices ranging from $2.19 to $12.99 per month, it’s more affordable than many competitors. Its two-year plan provides significant savings and includes up to three free months.

Overall, CyberGhost is one of the most budget-friendly VPNs available and is highly recommended.

5. TunnelBear VPN by Price

TunnelBear is a popular VPN with a free option and fun app graphics. The app shows a virtual map with a bear that digs a tunnel to connect to the VPN server. While the graphics are entertaining, privacy is very important. So, let’s see if TunnelBear offers good privacy protection at a fair price.

Pricing and Subscriptions

TunnelBear offers three subscription plans:

  1. A free VPN with limited data and server choices.
  2. A premium VPN for personal use.
  3. A premium VPN for teams.

We tested TunnelBear for personal use, so we chose the second option, known as the Unlimited plan.

Unlimited Plan

The Unlimited plan has no data limits and works on any number of devices. It also lets you choose the VPN server location down to the city level, unlike the free plan.

Here are the payment options for the Unlimited plan:

  • 1 Month: $9.99
  • 1 Year: $39.99
  • 3 Years: $120

Average Monthly Cost:

  • 1 Month: $9.99
  • 1 Year: $3.33
  • 3 Years: $3.33

TunnelBear’s pricing is quite cheap. The monthly plan at $9.99 is lower than most VPNs we’ve tested. For example, NordVPN costs $12.99 per month, and Private Internet Access costs $11.95 per month.

However, TunnelBear doesn’t make our list of the most affordable VPNs because the three-year plan doesn’t offer much savings compared to the one-year plan. Private Internet Access offers a $2.03 monthly rate for a three-year commitment, which saves you $40 over three years compared to TunnelBear.

So, the Unlimited plan is a good deal for the short term. For the long term, the savings aren’t as significant.

Free Subscription

TunnelBear’s free VPN is good for testing, even though it has limits. It provides 2000 MB of data per month and works on any number of devices. You can choose from available VPN locations, but you can only select by country, not by city. The free plan offers the same services as the Unlimited plan, but with a data cap.

For Businesses

TunnelBear also offers a plan called Teams for business use with two or more users. This plan includes unlimited data, five devices per user, a dedicated account manager, and centralized billing and management.

The Teams plan costs $5.75 per user per month, which is more than the personal plan at $3.33 monthly. The extra cost covers the convenience of having an account manager and managing multiple accounts in one place.

Discounts

TunnelBear’s prices are already low, but you can get even better deals if you are a student or part of a non-profit organization working against Internet censorship.

Students

If you are a student and part of the Student Beans network, you can get 70% off a two-year TunnelBear subscription. The exact price isn’t clear without being a Student Beans member, but it’s a great discount for students who want a VPN.

Non-profits Against Internet Censorship

TunnelBear supports organizations that fight Internet censorship by offering free annual subscriptions to their teams. This includes groups like the Open Technology Fund, Internews, and AccessNow. TunnelBear is always looking for new NGO partners.

Other VPNs to Consider for Streaming

TunnelBear is a good choice if you want an affordable VPN to protect your data online. However, if you want to stream Netflix from other countries, TunnelBear may not work well. For streaming, consider other VPNs that can easily access Netflix from around the world.

What We Liked

We liked TunnelBear for several reasons:

  • Kill Switch: It stops our web browsing if the WiFi connection fails, keeping our traffic safe.
  • Torrenting: We could torrent safely with TunnelBear turned on.
  • Strong Encryption: It uses strong 256-bit encryption to protect our web traffic.
  • Dynamic IP Addresses: We got a new IP address each time we connected, making us harder to track.
  • Free Option: The free plan has a 500 MB data limit but is a good trial option.
  • Fair Pricing: The paid plan costs only $3.33 a month.
  • Flexible Contracts: No need to commit for more than a month.
  • Unlimited Data: The paid plan offers unlimited data use.
  • Unlimited Server Switches: We could switch servers as much as we wanted, useful for traveling.

More Digital Security from TunnelBear

TunnelBear offers more than just a VPN. They have a password manager and a tracking blocker.

RememBear

RememBear is TunnelBear’s password manager. It stores usernames and passwords in an encrypted vault, ensuring they are long, complicated, and unique. RememBear works on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac, and has browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. It offers a 30-day free trial. After that, you can choose a one or two-year plan:

  • 1 Year: $3 per month ($36 total)
  • 2 Years: $2.50 per month ($60 total)

TunnelBear Chrome Blocker

TunnelBear also offers a free Chrome extension that blocks ad tracking and cookies. While it doesn’t make browsing completely anonymous, it adds some privacy without needing a full VPN.

Need Help?

TunnelBear’s website has a help section with articles on setting up your account, paying, and troubleshooting. You can also email support or use the live chat, which is a Bot from ZenDesk. TunnelBear doesn’t have phone support.

TunnelBear: Behind the Scenes

Daniel Kaldor and Ryan Duchok started TunnelBear in 2011, and McAfee bought it in 2018. The company is based in Toronto, Canada, with servers in 22 countries. However, because Canada is part of the Five Eyes international surveillance alliance, there could be concerns about data privacy.

TunnelBear logs some account data, such as:

  • Email address
  • Payment expiration date
  • Operating system version
  • App version
  • Monthly activity
  • Total data used each month

6. IPVanish VPN by Price

If you want to keep your online identity hidden, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) like IPVanish can help. A VPN changes and hides your real IP address so websites cannot see it. IPVanish is good at this, and it also provides secure encryption and fast speeds. We tested IPVanish and found it to be affordable. This page explains how much IPVanish costs and what you get with an IPVanish subscription.

Features

  • Number of Devices: Unlimited simultaneous connections
  • Servers: 2,400 servers with 40,000 shared IP addresses in 90 locations
  • Streaming: Works with YouTube, Spotify, Sling TV, etc.
  • Torrenting: Allowed
  • Encryption: 256-bit AES
  • 1-month subscription cost: $10.99
  • 1-year subscription cost: $47.88 for the first year, $89.99 for the second year

How Much Does IPVanish Cost?

IPVanish has three subscription options, all with the same features. The only difference is how long you pay for in advance. The more months you pay for, the lower the average monthly cost.

  • 12-Month Plan: Costs $47.88. This is about $3.99 per month.
  • Quarterly Plan: Costs $15.96 for three months, which averages $5.32 per month.
  • Monthly Plan: Costs $10.99 per month.

After the first term, the prices go up. The yearly plan renews at $89.99 ($7.50 per month) and the quarterly plan renews at $29.99 ($10 per month).

Term Length:

  • 1 Month: $10.99 billed monthly
  • 1 Year: $41.85 for the first year, averaging $2.79 per month (with 3 extra months free)
  • 2 Years: $59.13, averaging $2.46 per month (with 3 extra months free)

The best value is the two-year plan for $59.13, which comes to about $2.46 per month. With three extra months free, the cost drops to $2.19 per month. The one-year plan costs $41.85, which is about $3.49 per month, and also includes three extra months, making it $2.79 per month on average. The monthly plan is $10.99 per month, which is the most expensive option but can be canceled anytime. For comparison, Surfshark charges $15.45 for its monthly plan and NordVPN charges $12.99.

Note: Prices for the one-year and two-year plans are for the initial subscription only. Renewals will cost $89.99 for the yearly plan and $29.99 for the quarterly plan.

What IPVanish Subscriptions Include

All IPVanish plans have the same features:

  • Compatible Apps: Works on Windows, Mac, iOS, Fire TV, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and routers.
  • Unlimited Bandwidth: No limits on data use or number of devices.
  • Encryption: Uses 256-bit AES encryption.
  • Logging Policy: Only collects basic information like page requests and browser types, not web traffic.
  • SOCKS5 Proxy: Helps with privacy.
  • Access: Unblocks censored apps and websites.
  • VPN Protocols: Supports IKEv2, OpenVPN, and L2TP/IPsec.

IPVanish is reasonably priced at $2.19 per month for the two-year plan, which is less than NordVPN and cheaper than some other VPNs. Other VPNs can cost up to $9 per month.

Other Similarly Priced VPNs

IPVanish’s pricing is in line with other top VPNs. If you like IPVanish’s pricing, you might also consider other highly-rated VPNs.

Can I Try IPVanish For Free?

Not exactly. IPVanish does not offer a free trial but has a 30-day money-back guarantee. You have to buy a plan first and then request a refund within 30 days if you are not satisfied. This is not a free trial, but it makes IPVanish nearly risk-free. IPVanish promises a full refund with no questions asked. Be aware that the charge happens as soon as you make the purchase, so remember to cancel within 30 days if needed.

Cloud Service Through IPVanish

IPVanish offers 500 GB of cloud storage through SugarSync for an extra $2 per month with the VPN plan. This service keeps your videos, photos, and documents safe and accessible. Some VPNs, like StrongVPN, offer free storage, but it is only 250 GB.

Payment Options

You can pay IPVanish with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, or Discover credit or debit cards. For extra security, you can also use PayPal, but credit card payments are also safe. We used a credit card without any issues.

What If I Want to Cancel?

Cancelling IPVanish is easy. Log in to your IPVanish account, go to the control panel, and click “I wish to cancel my subscription.” Fill out the form and wait for the confirmation email. You can also contact support for help with cancellation.

Favorite Features

Here are some things we like about IPVanish:

  • Unlimited Devices: Connect as many devices as you want at the same time.
  • SugarSync: Stores thousands of photos and videos securely, with remote wipe options for lost or stolen devices.
  • Worldwide Coverage: Over 40,000 IP addresses and servers in more than 75 locations.
  • Torrenting Allowed: Download your favorite content with no restrictions.
  • Strong Encryption: Uses AES-256 encryption, the best available.
  • Split Tunneling: Use the VPN and public network at the same time.
  • Customer Service: 24/7 chat, phone, and email support with quick and helpful responses.
  • Minimal Logging: Keeps only basic data, not your web activity.

Watch Out: The location of a VPN company matters. U.S.-based VPNs, like IPVanish, are part of surveillance agreements and might be forced to share customer data.

Company History

IPVanish was founded in 2012 by Mudhook Media, part of Highwinds Network Group. It changed ownership several times and is now owned by J2 Global. There was controversy in 2016 over privacy issues, but the new management has since confirmed that IPVanish follows its no-logs policy.

7. Hotspot Shield VPN by Price

When we reviewed Hotspot Shield, we gave it a strong rating of 8.9 out of 10. It’s one of the best VPNs of 2024 because of its fast speed and its unique VPN technology called Catapult Hydra. There’s a lot to like about Hotspot Shield, so we’ll discuss if it’s worth buying. If not, maybe the free version is a good option? We’ll explain everything below, so keep reading.

Features

  • Money-back guarantee: 45 days
  • Monthly price range: $7.99 – $19.99
  • Free VPN: Yes, for one device with limits on data, customer support, streaming, and speed.
  • Compatible devices: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Chrome; with Premium plans, also routers, Linux, and Smart TVs.

Hotspot Shield Free Trial

Not all VPNs offer a free trial. Usually, you need to buy a subscription first and then cancel within the money-back period to get a refund. We did this with NordVPN to test it for free. We bought a subscription, canceled within 30 days, and got a refund.

Hotspot Shield offers a free option too. It has a 45-day money-back guarantee and also a free VPN you can use without paying. The free VPN has ads and limits, but it’s one of the best free VPNs we’ve tested.

Features

  • Free VPN:
  • Number of devices: 1
  • Supported devices: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android
  • Virtual locations: 1
  • Connection speed limit: 1 Gbps (speed may be slower)
  • Data usage limit: No limit (must watch ads for access)
  • Ads: 1 ad for 15 minutes of access
  • Netflix access: No
  • Optimized for gaming: No
  • Customer support: Support center only

With the free VPN, we could use it on one device, access limited streaming, and connect to only four server locations (2 in the USA, Singapore, and London). Despite these limits, the speed was impressive, nearly matching the premium version. The free version had limited servers, so traffic was often congested compared to the premium version with over a hundred locations.

The main downside was the ads. We had to watch ads (15-30 seconds long) to use the VPN for 15 minutes. Although there was no data limit, watching ads could be annoying. However, we could save up ad views to get hours of access. For example, watching ads during our lunch break earned us four hours of access.

More Free Trial Options

Many top VPNs offer free or risk-free trials so you can try them before committing. Besides Hotspot Shield, other top VPNs offer 30-day or up to 7-day free trials. You might find one you like.

Subscription Options

We wanted the full Hotspot Shield experience, so we chose the Premium individual plan, covering five devices. There’s also a family plan that covers 25 devices across five accounts.

Features

  • Basic:
  • Number of accounts: 1
  • Maximum number of devices: 1
  • Streaming access: Limited
  • Maximum connection speed: 2 Mbps
  • Data limit per day: 500 MB
  • Number of virtual locations: 1
  • Customer support: Support center
  • Monthly price: $0
  • Premium:
  • Number of accounts: 1
  • Maximum number of devices: 5
  • Streaming access: Yes
  • Maximum connection speed: 1 Gbps
  • Data limit per day: Unlimited
  • Number of virtual locations: 115+
  • Customer support: 24/7 live chat, support center
  • Coverage for Linux, smart TVs, routers: Yes
  • Anti-malware and anti-phishing: Yes
  • Smart VPN: Yes
  • Monthly price: $12.99
  • Monthly price with annual plan: $7.99
  • Annual plan total cost: $95.88
  • Savings with annual plan: 38%
  • Premium Family:
  • Number of accounts: 5
  • Maximum number of devices: 25
  • Streaming access: Yes
  • Maximum connection speed: 1 Gbps
  • Data limit per day: Unlimited
  • Number of virtual locations: 115+
  • Customer support: 24/7 live chat, support center
  • Coverage for Linux, smart TVs, routers: Yes
  • Anti-malware and anti-phishing: No
  • Smart VPN: Yes
  • Monthly price: $19.99
  • Monthly price with annual plan: $11.99
  • Annual plan total cost: $143.88
  • Savings with annual plan: 40%

Pro Tip: With the family plan, you can share your subscription with up to five people. Each user gets their own account and can use the VPN on five devices. This is like having five individual subscriptions for only $7 more per month than the individual plan.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

If you buy Hotspot Shield but later want to cancel, you can get a full refund within 45 days. This is a generous money-back guarantee compared to the 30 days offered by most VPNs. CyberGhost is another top VPN with a 45-day money-back guarantee.

Favorite Features

Hotspot Shield is worth its price for these reasons:

  • Worldwide availability: It has servers in over 80 countries.
  • No web activity logs: Hotspot Shield does not track the websites we visit.
  • Torrenting: It’s easy to download non-copyrighted material with Hotspot Shield.
  • Netflix: We changed our Netflix region to see different content.
  • Dynamic IP addresses: Each time we connected, we got a new IP address.
  • Free option: The free plan worked on one device with no time limit.
  • Smart VPN: This feature lets us route some traffic through Hotspot Shield and some through the public internet.
  • Money-back guarantee: We had 45 days to cancel and get a full refund.
  • User-friendly app: The Hotspot Shield app is easy to use and rated well on app stores.

Background Information

Hotspot Shield is part of Aura, which bought its parent company, Pango, in July 2020. Aura owns various digital security services, including VPNs, antivirus software, and identity theft protection. Since joining Aura, Hotspot Shield has added new features, like anti-phishing.

However, Aura is based in the U.S., and so is Hotspot Shield. This means U.S. government agencies could demand user data due to surveillance agreements like Five Eyes. While Hotspot Shield doesn’t track web activity, it does log some user information, such as email addresses and IP addresses. This might be a concern for those who prioritize privacy.

Compatible Operating Systems, Devices, and Browsers

We tested Hotspot Shield on Windows and Mac laptops. It also works with:

  • Windows: Yes
  • Mac: Yes
  • iOS: Yes
  • Android: Yes
  • Chrome: Yes
  • Routers: Yes (Premium plans only)
  • Linux: Yes (Premium plans only)
  • Smart TVs: Yes (Premium plans only)

Payment Methods

For Premium subscriptions, you can pay with:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • JCB
  • Discover
  • PayPal
  • Diner’s Club International

Recap

Hotspot Shield offers a free option, a 45-day money-back guarantee, and extra services with Premium plans. If you like its service, buying the Premium individual plan can save you money and improve your digital security. The $19.99 per month Premium Family plan is also a good choice for providing safe browsing for the whole family.

If you have more questions, we have answers:

Can Hotspot Shield be trusted?

If you are not highly concerned about privacy, Hotspot Shield is trustworthy. It encrypts data and won’t log web activity. However, it does log some information like IP addresses and email addresses. Because it’s based in the U.S., government agencies might access this data. If privacy is a big concern, you might want to consider other options.

Is the Hotspot Shield VPN free?

Yes, Hotspot Shield has a free option, but it has limits: only one device, limited streaming, a maximum speed of 2 Mbps, and a 500 MB daily data limit. It doesn’t work on smart TVs, Linux devices, or routers. For short-term use, the free version is a good choice.

Is Hotspot Shield a virus?

No, Hotspot Shield is not a virus. It’s a VPN that encrypts your web traffic and changes your IP address.

How do I get Hotspot Shield?

  1. Go to the Hotspot Shield website.
  2. Choose the plan you want.
  3. Enter your payment details.
  4. Create a username and password.
  5. Download the app on your devices.
  6. Sign in with your username

8. Surfshark VPN by Price

These days, two dollars might not buy much. You can get a bagel or a small coffee, but not both. But did you know you can get Surfshark VPN for just a little over $2 per month to keep your data safe and private?

Many affordable VPNs offer similar prices, but Surfshark is one of the best. It’s almost as good as NordVPN, which costs around $4 per month.

In this guide, we’ll look at Surfshark’s pricing and how you can get that $2+ per month rate. We’ll also explain what’s included in Surfshark’s subscription plans and help you decide if it’s right for you. Let’s get started!

Surfshark VPN Subscription Options

Surfshark’s subscriptions can be a bit confusing because they now offer antivirus software and identity monitoring. There are three main plans: Surfshark Starter, Surfshark One, and Surfshark One+.

  • Surfshark Starter is just the VPN.
  • Surfshark One includes antivirus.
  • Surfshark One+ adds identity monitoring.

We will focus on Surfshark Starter because it’s all about the VPN. Here are the options:

  • 1 month: $15.45 per month, billed as $15.45 each month.
  • 12 months: $2.79 per month (includes 3 free months), billed as $41.85 total for the year.
  • 24 months: $2.19 per month (includes 3 free months), billed as $59.13 total for the two years.

The lowest rate is $2.19 per month if you choose the two-year plan. Without the free months, it’s still just $2.49 per month, which is lower than most VPNs.

But keep in mind:

  • You pay for the two years upfront, which is $59.76.
  • After two years, the subscription will renew at $59.76 per year, making it $5 per month.

Tip: The two-year plan is the best deal because of the low introductory price and the three free months. If you’re unsure about committing for two years, Surfshark offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Comparing Prices

Surfshark’s prices are lower than some top VPNs. For example, ExpressVPN costs $6.67 per month for a one-year plan with three free months. Normally, it’s $8.32 per month or about $100 per year. Surfshark’s plan for the same period costs $41.85, which is less than half of ExpressVPN’s cost.

Price is not the only thing. Surfshark allows an unlimited number of devices on one account, while other VPNs like ExpressVPN limit you to five or eight devices.

The monthly plan at $15.45 is higher than some other options, like NordVPN at $12.99 per month or Private Internet Access at $11.99 per month. However, Surfshark is still cheaper than the most expensive monthly VPN plans.

Note: Using public Wi-Fi or mobile hotspots can be risky without a VPN. Surfshark works on any number of devices to protect your privacy.

Surfshark’s Best Features

Surfshark offers many features at a low price. Here are some of the best ones:

  • Logging Policy: Surfshark doesn’t track your browsing activity. It records IP addresses only for 15 minutes after each connection. Third-party audits confirm this, making it a strong “no-logs” VPN.
  • Split Tunneling: This feature lets you choose which apps or websites use the VPN and which don’t. This can help if some apps or services don’t work well with VPNs.
  • Free Trial: Surfshark offers a seven-day free trial through the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. You can cancel anytime before the trial ends to avoid charges.
  • P2P/Torrenting Support: Surfshark supports torrenting with privacy and good speed.
  • Streaming: You can use Surfshark to access streaming content from other countries by changing your IP address.
  • Effective Apps: Surfshark has high-rated apps for both Android and iOS.
  • Unlimited Connections: You can connect as many devices as you want with one Surfshark subscription.
  • GPS Changing: Surfshark allows you to change your GPS location on Android devices.
  • Dynamic MultiHop: This feature lets you connect to two VPN servers at once for extra security.
  • NoBorders Mode: This helps you bypass internet restrictions in countries with heavy censorship.
  • Camouflage Mode: This hides your VPN traffic to look like normal internet traffic.

Surfshark One Plans

Surfshark One includes extra features beyond the basic VPN. Here’s a comparison:

  • Surfshark Starter (2 years): VPN only at $2.19 per month.
  • Surfshark One (2 years): Includes VPN, antivirus, alert, and search for $2.69 per month.
  • Surfshark One+ (2 years): Includes VPN, antivirus, alert, search, and identity monitoring for $4.29 per month.

Surfshark Alert: Checks if your email is part of a data breach.

Surfshark Search: Removes ads from search results.

Antivirus: Protects your devices from malware.

Alternative ID: Creates a fake online profile to protect your real data.

Payment Options

Surfshark uses DragonPay for credit card payments, which is safe but not the most secure method. For better privacy, use PayPal, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay, which Surfshark accepts.

For even more privacy, you can pay with cryptocurrency through CoinGate, but it may take up to 24 hours for payment to clear.

Accepted Payment Methods:

  • Major credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover)
  • PayPal
  • Google Pay
  • Amazon Pay
  • Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple)

Tip: Paying with cryptocurrency is the most private method.

Cancelling Surfshark

Canceling your Surfshark subscription is easy. Just log into your dashboard, open a live chat ticket, and choose to cancel. You won’t get a refund for unused months, but your access will remain until the end of the paid period. If you cancel within 30 days of signing up, you can get a full refund.

Surfshark Free Trial

You can get a seven-day free trial if you sign up through the App Store or Google Play Store. If you buy a subscription from Surfshark’s website, you can use their 30-day money-back guarantee.

Student Discounts

Surfshark offers a 15% discount for students on the two-year plan, which lowers the cost to $2.11 per month and includes three free months.

Other Discounts

Surfshark often provides extra months for free with one-year or two-year plans. Check their website for current deals.

Surfshark’s referral program gives you free months if you refer friends who sign up for more than 30 days. For example, referring one friend gets you one free month, while referring five friends can get you 12 free months.

9. VyprVPN by Price

When choosing a VPN, price is an important factor. VyprVPN is a VPN provider based in Switzerland that focuses on digital privacy. We rated it 8.5 out of 10 after testing it for a few weeks. But price matters too. On this page, we’ll cover all you need to know about VyprVPN’s pricing and plans.

Subscription Costs

Here is the cost for different VyprVPN plans:

  • 1 month: $10
  • 1 year: $5 per month (billed as $60)
  • 2 years: $3 per month (billed as $72)

What VyprVPN Offers

If you’re short on time, here are some key features of VyprVPN:

  • Strict Logging Policy: VyprVPN promises not to log your IP address, start or stop times, traffic, or web content.
  • No International Surveillance Laws: As a Switzerland-based company, VyprVPN is not under the control of international surveillance groups like Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, and 14 Eyes.
  • Global Servers: VyprVPN has a large number of servers in 70 locations worldwide, offering over 300,000 unique IP addresses. They have multiple servers in South America and Africa, which is rare for VPNs.
  • Streaming: VyprVPN usually allows streaming on services like Netflix and Disney+. Although streaming isn’t always guaranteed, we’ve had good success with it.

Free Trial

VyprVPN does not offer a free trial. However, they have a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’re not satisfied, you can get a refund if you cancel within 30 days. We think VyprVPN’s monthly pricing is reasonable, so you might start with that to try it out affordably.

Is VyprVPN the Best Option?

We’ve tested many VPNs and find VyprVPN to be good. However, it may not be the best overall. Some features like split tunneling, multihop, obfuscation, and a kill switch are not fully covered by VyprVPN. For a VPN with all these features, consider other options listed in our top VPN picks.

Subscription Pricing and Costs

Since VyprVPN doesn’t offer a free trial, knowing the costs is important. Here’s a breakdown:

  • 1 month: $10
  • 12 months: $5 per month (total $60)
  • 24 months: $3 per month (total $72)

VyprVPN’s pricing is simple: you pay less per month if you commit to a longer plan. While you might pay more upfront for an annual or two-year plan, the monthly cost is cheaper. If you’re new to VPNs, starting with the monthly plan might be a good idea.

Compare VyprVPN with Other VPNs

VyprVPN

VyprVPN is a bit pricey for a monthly plan compared to other VPNs but offers a good deal for annual and two-year plans. 11. Private Internet Access VPN by Price

Private Internet Access (PIA) is known for being one of the cheapest VPNs available, with prices starting at about $2.37 per month. The regular monthly price is $11.99. Is it a good deal at these prices? Does it include all the important VPN features?

In this guide, we’ll look at the cost details of Private Internet Access, including its subscription plans, payment options, and whether it offers a free trial. We’ll also share some tips on how to save money if PIA is the VPN you want. Ultimately, the question is: Is Private Internet Access worth it?

Private Internet Access Subscription Options

Private Internet Access has different subscription plans, but all plans give you the same features. The difference is in price and subscription length. Longer subscriptions are cheaper per month.

  • 1 Month: $11.99 total, $11.99 per month
  • 6 Months: $45 total, $7.50 per month
  • 2 Years: $56.94 total, $2.37 per month

We used the monthly plan for our test because it was the most flexible, though it was also the most expensive. PIA’s one-month plan costs almost the same as NordVPN’s monthly subscription, which is $12.99. Currently, NordVPN is our top VPN for 2024, while PIA is in third place.

Most VPNs cost between $10 and $15 per month, making PIA a standard-priced option. If you want a cheaper monthly plan, check out ProtonVPN, which costs $9.99 per month and is also a top VPN.

Private Internet Access’ Best Price

PIA’s real price advantage is with its two-year plan. For $56.94, you get access for two years, which is about $2.37 per month. Only a few VPNs have cheaper plans, such as Ivacy’s five-year plan at $1.17 per month and FastestVPN’s annual plan at $1.66 per month. However, PIA is a well-known and reputable VPN, making it a great value.

The downside is that you need to commit to two years to get this best price.

Does Private Internet Access Have a Free Trial?

Yes, Private Internet Access offers a free trial for seven days if you sign up through their app on Android or iOS devices. However, this trial is only available once. Also, if you sign up through Google Play or the App Store, you will not be eligible for the 30-day money-back guarantee.

Here’s how to get the free trial:

  1. Download the Private Internet Access app from Google Play or the App Store.
  2. Install and open the app.
  3. Choose the one-year plan and tap ‘Subscribe Now.’
  4. Confirm that the billing date is seven days from today.
  5. Verify the payment with two-factor authentication or your Google Play/iCloud password.
  6. Enjoy Private Internet Access free for seven days.

Important Notes:

  1. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, you will be charged $39.95 for a one-year subscription (about $3.33 per month) instead of the two-year plan. To avoid this, cancel before the trial ends.
  2. If you buy a subscription through the app, you lose the 30-day money-back guarantee. Buying through the website gives you 30 days to test the VPN and get a refund if needed.

How to Buy a Private Internet Access Subscription

We recommend buying directly from PIA’s website to get the money-back guarantee. Click the ‘View Plans’ button to go to their official website.

Buying with a Credit/Debit Card:

  1. Enter your email address.
  2. Enter your card details.
  3. Click ‘Subscribe Now’ and complete the payment.
  4. Check your email for your login details.
  5. Log in to your account and change your password.
  6. Download and install the VPN app.
  7. Log in with your new password.

Buying with PayPal:

  1. Click ‘Subscribe via PayPal’ and log in to PayPal.
  2. Make sure your PayPal email is active (where PIA will send login details).
  3. Complete the payment.
  4. Follow steps 4 to 7 above to start using PIA.

Buying with Crypto:

  1. Enter your email address.
  2. Wait for the BitPay page to load.
  3. Choose your cryptocurrency wallet and connect it to BitPay.
  4. Confirm and complete the payment.
  5. Check your email for your PIA account details.
  6. Log in, change your password, and download the app.

Are There Discounts?

PIA is already one of the most affordable VPNs, but there are occasional discounts. For example, during PIA’s Summer Sale, you might get four extra months with the two-year plan, totaling 28 months for $56.94, which makes it about $2.03 per month.

Watch for sales during events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday for additional discounts.

Private Internet Access Features to Test

Once you have PIA, test its features to make sure it fits your needs:

  • Unlimited Simultaneous Connections: PIA allows you to connect as many devices as you want. We connected up to 14 devices at once.
  • Servers: PIA has servers in 91 countries, though availability might vary by device and VPN protocol.
  • VPN Protocols: PIA uses OpenVPN and WireGuard. Check how each performs on your devices.
  • Encryption: PIA offers 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption. 128-bit is faster for streaming and gaming, while 256-bit is stronger.
  • Kill Switch: PIA’s kill switch can be set to activate if the connection drops unexpectedly or when you turn off the VPN.
  • Split Tunneling: You can choose which apps or IP addresses bypass the VPN.
  • RAM-Based Servers: PIA uses RAM-based servers that wipe data after each reboot, enhancing privacy.
  • Logging Options: PIA lets you choose whether or not to allow data collection. By default, PIA does not log personal data.

Test PIA’s speed on your devices. Our tests showed PIA offers fast download speeds, though upload speeds on macOS, Android, and iOS were lower. PIA did not always bypass streaming service blocks.

Canceling Private Internet Access

If you need to cancel PIA, here’s how:

  1. Stop Auto-Renewal: This will prevent future charges but you’ll still have access until the subscription ends. To do this, log in to your PIA dashboard and turn off auto-renewal.
  2. Cancel and Request a Refund: To completely cancel and request a refund, you need to email support@privateinternetaccess.com or submit a ticket with your order number and email address. It may take a few days to process.

Is Private Internet Access Worth It?

PIA offers fast speeds, strong encryption, and customizable features at a low cost. It is one of the best values among VPNs. However, it requires a long-term commitment for the best price and has some issues with upload speeds and streaming. If these are problems for you, check other options like Surfshark or UltraVPN.

12. Mozilla VPN by Price

Mozilla might not be as popular now as it was in the 2010s, but it has found a new way to connect with users: through a VPN. Mozilla VPN is relatively new, launching in 2020, compared to NordVPN which started in 2012. Currently, Mozilla VPN is available in only 35 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. But is it any good? And more importantly, is it worth the cost? We purchased a subscription to find out. Let’s look at Mozilla VPN’s pricing, features, and specs based on our experience.

Features

  • Number of servers: 280+
  • Number of countries with servers: 30+
  • Cost per month: $4.99
  • Free trial length: None
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days

Why It’s Worth It

Before we talk about the price, let’s explain why we think this VPN is a good choice:

  • Kill switch: If Mozilla VPN fails, it automatically closes our web browsers on iOS and Windows. On Android, we had to turn on the kill switch manually.
  • Split tunneling on Android: This feature lets us send some traffic through the public network and some through the VPN, but it’s only available on Android.
  • Low Price: Mozilla VPN costs $4.99 a month, which is straightforward and affordable.
  • Flexible contract: Mozilla VPN offers only a monthly subscription, so we don’t have to commit for a long time.
  • Five devices: A single subscription covers up to five devices.
  • Money-back guarantee: We had 30 days from purchase to get a full refund if we were not satisfied.

For more details on our experience with the VPN, check out our Mozilla VPN review.

Tip: If you use an Android device, manually turn on your kill switch. This ensures that if the VPN fails, Firefox will close, keeping your activity private.

Subscription Cost

Mozilla VPN’s pricing is simple: $4.99 per month for coverage on up to five devices. There are no yearly plans available right now. How does this compare to other VPNs?

Most VPNs offer monthly, yearly, or sometimes biennial plans. Longer subscriptions often come with discounts. For example, ExpressVPN costs $12.95 per month for the monthly plan, which is also for up to five devices. Mozilla VPN is much cheaper than this.

Other VPNs offer two-year plans. NordVPN, for instance, charges as low as $3.39 per month with a two-year subscription. This totals $81.36, saving money over time. If you want a long-term plan, NordVPN might be better than Mozilla VPN.

So who should consider Mozilla VPN? It’s ideal for those looking for a very cheap and flexible VPN. At $4.99 per month for five devices, it’s very affordable. You can cancel anytime since it’s billed monthly. There are cheaper options, but they usually require a one-year commitment or more.

Is Mozilla VPN Worth It?

Mozilla VPN is cheap, but it has some drawbacks. It lacks features like split tunneling on Mac and iOS, is not available globally, and has a less than ideal privacy policy. If you want a budget-friendly VPN with more features, consider other top-rated VPNs.

Other Services

Besides their VPN and the Firefox browser, Mozilla offers three free services: Firefox Lockwise, Pocket, and Firefox Monitor. Each is available separately. Here’s a closer look:

  • Firefox Lockwise: This password manager works with Firefox on desktop and mobile. It lets you use stored passwords on iOS and Android devices with Face or Touch ID. Your data is encrypted with AES-256. It’s free with no paid option.
  • Pocket: Save articles, videos, and other content to read later. Pocket has a free version and a paid Premium version.
  • Free Pocket: Save, watch, listen, and read.
  • Pocket Premium: Costs $4.99 per month or $3.75 per month if billed yearly. It offers a permanent library, suggested tags, full-text search, unlimited highlights, and premium fonts.
  • Firefox Monitor: Checks if your email has been involved in any data breaches. It’s free and can alert you if your credentials are found in breaches.

Free Trial and Refund Policies

Mozilla VPN does not offer a free trial, but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you cancel within 30 days, you’ll get a refund. This is not a free trial but could mean paying nothing if timed correctly.

Compatible Devices

Mozilla VPN currently works on:

  • Windows 10
  • Android
  • iOS

It does not yet support Mac or Linux.

Available Countries

Mozilla VPN is available in 35 countries, including:

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Canada
  • France
  • Italy
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • The Netherlands
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

We hope Mozilla VPN expands to more countries soon.

Mozilla: Behind the Curtain

Mozilla is known for its Firefox browser, but it’s also a company with a mission to provide a free and open Internet. Based in Mountain View, California, Mozilla is close to Google. The U.S. government could force them to share customer data as part of global surveillance agreements. Mozilla keeps some data like IP addresses and connection timestamps. They don’t share this data with advertisers but do share it with Mullvad, the VPN provider, and Stripe, for payments. If privacy is very important to you, Mozilla VPN might not be the best choice.

Company Background

Mozilla was founded in 2005, coming from the Mozilla Foundation. While Google is a huge company, Mozilla’s revenue was $450.9 million in 2018, much less than Google’s $136.36 billion. If you prefer supporting smaller companies, Mozilla’s Firefox and other services might be a good choice.

Mozilla VPN

Mozilla VPN has room for improvement, like adding more locations and devices and enhancing its privacy policy. However, at $4.99 per month, it’s very affordable. If you’re not too worried about privacy and want a cheap, flexible VPN, Mozilla VPN is worth considering. Plus, the 30-day money-back guarantee makes it low-risk.

13. AVG Secure VPN Pricing

AVG is known for its digital security products, including antivirus software, and they also offer a VPN. Their website can be a bit confusing, so we had to dig around to find their VPN pricing and test different plans. Here’s what we found.

How Much Does AVG’s VPN Cost?

After the initial two-month trial, you can choose from three payment plans for AVG VPN:

  • 1 year: $53.88
  • 2 years: $105.36
  • 3 years: $158.04

This breaks down to:

  • Monthly cost for 1 year: $4.49
  • Monthly cost for 2 years: $4.39
  • Monthly cost for 3 years: $4.39

While the prices are reasonable, there are two things we wish were different:

  1. Monthly Option: Most VPNs offer a month-to-month payment plan. AVG’s VPN contracts start at a year, with no monthly plan available. This might not work for everyone.
  2. Better Three-Year Discount: The price difference between the two-year and three-year plans is minimal, which is unusual. Typically, a three-year plan would be cheaper on a per-month basis.

Is AVG Worth It?

AVG is well-known for antivirus software, but their VPN is less popular. It lacks some features found in top VPNs, like Linux support and a large server list. However, it might be a good choice if you’re looking for a cheap VPN.

Favorite Features

  • 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee: If you don’t like the VPN, you can get a full refund within 30 days.
  • Free Trial: You can try the VPN free for 60 days on one device. We suggest downloading the app and doing a speed test before buying.
  • Low Pricing: The cost of $4.39 or $4.49 per month is quite affordable.
  • Good Apps: The VPN app for Android has a 4.4 rating on Google Play, and the iOS app has a 4.7 rating on the App Store.
  • Solid Encryption: AVG uses AES-256 encryption, which is the industry standard.
  • Fast on Macs: We noticed only a 25% increase in lag on our MacBook Pro with the VPN, which is better than the usual 30% or more.

Free Trial Policy

AVG offers a seven-day free trial of their VPN. This trial lets you test all the VPN features on one device. You can check streaming compatibility and run speed tests using tools like Ookla or free options from Google.

Pro Tip: Run a speed test without the VPN first, then run it with the VPN to see the difference.

Cancellation Policy

If you decide to cancel after the free trial or within the first 30 days of purchase, you can get a full refund. Contact AVG within 30 days of your purchase through their online store or Google Play store. If you bought from a retail store or another seller, this guarantee might not apply.

How to Cancel

You can cancel your VPN subscription by contacting AVG support via:

  • Phone
  • Email
  • Chat

If you purchased through the App Store, a refund isn’t guaranteed, but you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. A refund is not guaranteed even within the 30-day window.

More AVG Pricing

AVG offers other products besides their VPN. Here’s what you’d pay for their antivirus software:

Antivirus Software Only

  • AVG Antivirus (basic protection for one device): Free on Mac, $46.68 for one device or $59.88 for ten devices.
  • AVG Internet Security (includes extra features): $46.68 for one device or $59.88 for ten devices.

Antivirus for Business

AVG also offers antivirus for businesses:

  • AVG Antivirus Business Edition: $46.99 per device per year.
  • AVG Internet Security Business Edition: $56.99 per device per year.

Neither of these business plans includes the VPN, and there’s no separate VPN subscription for businesses.

Antivirus, VPN, and TuneUp Bundle

The most cost-effective way to get AVG’s VPN, antivirus, and TuneUp (which improves device performance) is by buying AVG Ultimate. It covers ten devices for $59.88 in the first year.

Premium Tech Support

If you need more help with AVG products, they offer premium support. Prices are high, but here’s what you pay:

  • Simple Fix: $79 for one call.
  • Complex Fix: $119 for one call.
  • Total Care: $199 per year or $10 per month for unlimited calls.

Expert Install

If you want professional help with installation and setup, it costs $19.99. Note that this service is only available in English, and international calls might incur charges.

AVG Privacy Policy

AVG’s VPN logs a lot of user data, including:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Account number
  • Password
  • Payment information
  • IP address
  • Billing data
  • Operating system
  • Hardware
  • City and country of device
  • URLs of websites

AVG’s logging practices might not be ideal for those concerned with privacy. Additionally, AVG is based in the Netherlands, a Five Eyes member country, so they might have to share data with governments if required.

AVG VPN

AVG’s VPN offers good pricing, especially for two or three years. We recommend trying the free one-week trial to see if it suits your needs. Buy through their website or Google Play store to ensure you get the money-back guarantee and avoid risk.

14. Ivacy VPN Pricing

VPN subscriptions don’t last forever, and prices can vary. Ivacy, however, offers VPN access for up to five years. For this long-term plan, you get a very low rate of $1.17 per month. Is this a good deal? Let’s look at what Ivacy offers and see if it’s worth it for you.

Ivacy VPN Options

Ivacy offers different subscription plans for individuals, small groups, and businesses. The most notable option is the five-year plan for individuals, which costs just $1.17 per month. Let’s break down the options available.

For Individuals

The individual plan is meant for personal use, but it allows you to connect up to 10 devices. This should be enough for a small family. This plan offers similar features to NordVPN, which is one of the best VPNs of 2024. Ivacy’s five-year plan gives you the best rate, but you can choose different lengths of subscription. Here’s how the costs compare:

  • 1 Month: $9.95
  • 2 Years: $1.99 per month, totaling $48
  • 5 Years: $1.17 per month, totaling $69.99
  • Savings:
    • 1 Month: 0%
    • 2 Years: 80%
    • 5 Years: 88%

For Groups

If you need a VPN for a family or a group of friends, Ivacy offers bulk subscriptions. However, prices for group plans are not listed online. To get pricing details for multiple accounts, you’ll need to email multi-account@ivacy.com.

For Businesses

Ivacy is used by over 1,000 businesses to keep their data safe. Pricing for business plans is also not listed on the website. You can submit a request online to discuss prices for a business VPN.

Dedicated IP Addresses

Ivacy also offers dedicated IP addresses as an extra feature. You can choose addresses from Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Germany, Singapore, the U.K., and the U.S. The costs are:

  • Monthly Plan:
    • Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Germany, Singapore, U.S., U.K: $9.95
  • Six-Month Plan:
    • $5
  • Annual Plan:
    • $3.99

Privacy with Ivacy

Ivacy is a good option for low-cost VPN protection. It is reliable and keeps your data safe, even though it lacks some advanced features like multihop or camouflage mode. If you need extra protection, you might want to consider other VPNs. We like these three alternatives:

Free Trial

Ivacy no longer offers a free trial, but there is a 31-day money-back guarantee, which is one day longer than most other VPNs. Here’s how it works:

  1. Buy a subscription.
  2. Test it for the first few weeks.
  3. If you don’t like it, email Ivacy to cancel within the first 31 days.
  4. If you cancel in this period, you will get a full refund.

Although a money-back guarantee isn’t the same as a free trial, it allows you to sign up for a long-term plan with less risk.

Payment Methods

Ivacy accepts several payment methods. We used a credit card, but other options include:

  • Credit Card
  • PayPal
  • BitPay
  • PerfectMoney
  • CoinGate
  • Alipay
  • iDeal
  • WebMoney
  • Mercado Pago
  • UnionPay
  • QIWI
  • Onecard
  • Necard
  • ClickAndBuy
  • DotPay
  • Neosurf
  • Mobiamo

Ivacy works on most major devices and browsers. It also works on Xbox. You can use Ivacy with:

  • Android

  • BBC
  • Disney Plus
  • Hulu
  • Kodi
  • Netflix
  • Prime Video

Cancellation and Refunds

You can cancel Ivacy within 30 days of purchase and get a full refund. This does not apply to monthly subscriptions or payments made with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. To cancel and get a refund, email support@ivacy.com with your username and reason for cancellation.

What We Liked

Ivacy offers low prices and has several positive features:

  • Location: Based in Singapore, which is not part of the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or 14 Eyes groups, so it cannot be legally forced to share your data.

  • Privacy: Logs minimal data, only your name and email address.
  • Torrenting: Allows downloading of torrents.

Ivacy is known for being generous with discounts, so waiting for a major holiday might save you even more.

Ivacy

Ivacy VPN’s low prices and additional discounts make it a great option. It provides strong security features and affordable long-term plans, making it one of the best VPN choices for budget-conscious users.

15. McAfee Safe Connect VPN by Price

Many antivirus companies now offer VPN services to help protect your privacy and keep you safe from online threats like hackers and spyware. McAfee is one of these companies. You can buy just the VPN or get it as part of a bundle with antivirus protection. We recommend getting the bundle because it costs the same as just the VPN, so you get more for the same price. This page will give you details about McAfee VPN prices and what’s included.

Free vs. Paid Plans

McAfee offers both free and paid VPN plans. Here’s a comparison:

  • Free Plan
  • Data Limit: 500 MB per month
  • Devices: 1 device
  • Cost: $0.00 per month
  • Cost per Year: $0.00
  • Paid Plans
  • 1 Device Plan
    • Data Limit: Unlimited
    • Cost: $7.99 per month
    • Cost per Year: $34.99 for the first year, $47.99 for the second year
  • 5 Devices Plan
    • Data Limit: Unlimited
    • Cost: $7.99 per month
    • Cost per Year: $34.99 for the first year, $47.99 for the second year

How Much Does McAfee Safe Connect VPN Cost?

McAfee’s Safe Connect VPN is free if you use up to 500 MB of data per month. This is a very small amount of data—enough to watch a 30-minute show on Netflix in Standard Quality. If you need unlimited data, you’ll need to pay. McAfee does not offer monthly subscriptions; you must sign up for at least a year. You can use the VPN on up to five devices. If you need more devices, you would need multiple subscriptions. The subscription starts at $39.99 per year, which averages to about $3.33 per month.

Here’s McAfee’s pricing for different plans:

  1. VPN Only
  • Monthly Cost: $3.33 for the first year, $4.00 after
  • Total for First Year: $39.99
  • Total for Second Year: $47.99

2. VPN Plus Antivirus

  • Monthly Cost: $3.33 for the first year, $9.99 after
  • Total for First Year: $39.99
  • Total for Second Year: $119.99

3. All-in-One Security with VPN, Antivirus, and Identity Protection

  • Monthly Cost: $7.49 for the first year, $16.67 after
  • Total for First Year: $89.99
  • Total for Second Year: $199.99

The prices listed are for the first year only. After that, the cost increases significantly, and there is an auto-renewal. For example, the cost of the Privacy + Security plan triples in the second year. Be careful of these renewal prices.

Bundled VPNs vs. Stand-Alone VPNs

McAfee’s Safe Connect VPN offers basic protections like AES-256 encryption and dynamic IP addresses. If you want a VPN that comes with antivirus, this is a good option. However, if you want a stand-alone VPN, other options might be better.

VPN and Antivirus Bundle Pricing

Some McAfee antivirus plans include a VPN. This can be a good deal if you want both services. Here’s a look at the different plans:

  1. Basic Plan
  • Devices: 1
  • First-Year Cost: $29.99

2. Plus Plan

  • Devices: 5
  • First-Year Cost: $39.99
  • This is the same as the Privacy + Security plan.

3. Premium Plan

  • Devices: Unlimited
  • First-Year Cost: $49.99

4. Advanced Plan

  • Devices: Unlimited
  • First-Year Cost: $89.99
  • This is the same as the Privacy + Security + Identity plan.

With the Advanced or Premium plans, you get the VPN on unlimited devices. This can be useful for families. These plans also include extra features like device optimization, identity theft protection, parental controls, and a password manager.

LiveSafe Plan

The LiveSafe plan offers unlimited devices and includes a VPN. It costs $39.99 for the first year. If you choose auto-renewal, you pay $79.98 for two years. LiveSafe also includes:

  • Anti-spam for email
  • Encrypted file store
  • Customer support
  • Identity theft protection (with auto-renewal)
  • Password manager
  • PC optimization
  • Safe Family parental controls
  • File shredder
  • Vulnerability scanner
  • Web Advisor

This plan provides a lot of features for just a bit more than the basic plan.

What We Liked

Here are some things we liked about McAfee VPN:

  • Kill Switch on Windows: It helps protect your data if the VPN connection drops.
  • Torrenting Access: You can use the VPN to hide your torrenting activities.
  • Split Tunneling on Android: Allows you to choose which apps use the VPN.
  • Netflix Access: Sometimes works with Netflix, but not always.
  • 256-bit Encryption: Strong encryption for your data.
  • Dynamic IP Addresses: Changes your IP address regularly.
  • Free Version: Limited to one device and 500 MB of data.

Canceling McAfee

You can get a refund within 30 days if you are an individual user. If your annual subscription renews automatically, you can cancel and get a refund within 60 days of the renewal charge. Monthly subscriptions and customers from the Netherlands are not eligible for refunds.

McAfee Safe Connect VPN

McAfee Safe Connect VPN is a good option for privacy protection. At about $4 per month, it is affordable. Combining it with other McAfee products can offer more benefits. The VPN is essentially a free add-on if you buy an All-In-One Protection plan, improving your overall digital security.

16. Malwarebytes Privacy VPN by Price

We first knew Malwarebytes as a good antivirus that offers free protection against malware, but now it has more products. One of them is a VPN that helps keep your online activities private. It’s not the best VPN available – it has few servers and is not the fastest – but it might be a good choice if you want to protect your privacy without spending too much. Let’s look at Malwarebytes’ subscription options and pricing.

Costs

Here are the costs for Malwarebytes Privacy VPN based on the number of devices you want to protect each year:

  • 1 device: $39.99
  • 5 devices: $59.99
  • 10 devices: $99.99

VPN Subscription Options

Malwarebytes has a somewhat confusing pricing structure because you can customize your plan in many ways.

First, you can choose how many devices you want to protect, from 1 to 20. The cost depends on this choice. Second, you can choose to pay yearly or every two years. Lastly, you can decide whether to include Malwarebytes’ antivirus software with your VPN plan. To keep it simple, we will look at the yearly and two-year prices for plans that include only the VPN (without antivirus).

1-Year Pricing

  • 1 Device: $39.99
  • 5 Devices: $59.99
  • 10 Devices: $99.99

Average Monthly Cost

  • 1 Device: $3.33
  • 5 Devices: $4.99
  • 10 Devices: $8.33

Average Monthly Cost Per Device

  • 5 Devices: $0.99
  • 10 Devices: $0.83

2-Year Pricing

  • 1 Device: $79.98
  • 5 Devices: $119.98
  • 10 Devices: $199.98

Average Monthly Cost

  • 1 Device: $3.33

  • 5 Devices: $0.99
  • 10 Devices: $0.83

Our Thoughts on Malwarebytes’ Pricing

Unlike other VPNs that get cheaper with longer subscriptions (like NordVPN), Malwarebytes’ monthly cost stays the same whether you choose the one-year or two-year plan. So, the best way to compare is by looking at the monthly cost per device.

With a five-device plan, it costs only $0.99 per month per device, which is a good deal. For 10 devices, it’s $0.83 per month per device.

However, there are cheaper options. For instance, NordVPN protects up to 10 devices for $59.88 per year, which is about $0.50 per device per month. Surfshark offers unlimited devices for $41.85 per year ($3.49 per month). These options are better if you need to protect many devices.

Malwarebytes is better for those who need to protect fewer devices. Why pay $60 a year for 10 devices if you only need protection for one device at $40? If you have fewer than three devices, Malwarebytes is a practical choice.

More Flexible Options

Malwarebytes doesn’t offer month-to-month payments, so it’s not ideal for short-term use. However, if you want a VPN for a year or more, here are three alternatives with monthly payments that we tested and recommend:

Free Trial

We tried Malwarebytes VPN for free for a week on our Mac and Windows computers. This is a common trial length for VPNs. The free trial is for the Privacy package (VPN-only) and covers up to five devices. It includes the same features as the paid Privacy VPN.

Refunds

There is no refund for the Privacy VPN, but you can turn off auto-renewal to avoid being charged next year. Here’s how:

  1. Log into your Malwarebytes account.
  2. Go to the Payments tab.
  3. Click the pencil icon under Active Subscription.
  4. Turn off auto-renewal in the pop-up window and choose your reason for canceling.
  5. Look for a confirmation email.

Tip: If the pencil icon doesn’t appear, submit a support ticket instead.

Our Favorite Features

Here’s what we liked about the Privacy VPN:

No Traffic Logging

Many people use VPNs for privacy, so we checked Malwarebytes’ privacy policy. They don’t log our online activities or IP addresses. They only log a public key to set up the VPN connection. Although the company is based in the U.S. (a Five Eyes member), they don’t have much data to share if required by law.

AES-256 Encryption

The VPN uses AES-256 encryption, which is very strong and used by the U.S. military. This ensures that your browsing is private when using Malwarebytes.

Reasonable Prices

Malwarebytes isn’t the cheapest VPN, but it’s not the most expensive either. The cost starts at $3.33 per month, which is not too high.

Seven-Day Trial

We liked the seven-day free trial, which gave us enough time to test the VPN’s speed and compatibility with popular streaming services like Netflix.

Servers in More Than 30 Locations

Malwarebytes has over 370 servers in 30 locations. It’s not the largest network, but it’s worth trying the free trial to check if there’s a server near you.

Can I Get a Discount?

Malwarebytes doesn’t offer discounts on the Privacy VPN. Discounts are only available for their antivirus software. Here’s a summary of potential savings with their antivirus:

  • 1 Device: $39.99 per year, no savings
  • 3 Devices: $59.99 per year, 50% off
  • 5 Devices: $79.99 per year, 60% off
  • 10 Devices: $129.99 per year, 67% off

Savings for Students

If you are a student with Student Beans, you can get the antivirus for $5 for four years, saving over 95% from the usual $39.99.

More Free Tools

Malwarebytes offers a few more free tools:

  • Browser Guard: A secure browser that blocks trackers, scam sites, and ads. It’s free forever on Chrome and Firefox but doesn’t replace a VPN.
  • AdwCleaner: Removes junkware and unwanted programs from Windows 7, 8, or 10 computers. It doesn’t work on Macs or mobile devices.
  • Antivirus Software: Free 30-day trial for Malwarebytes’ antivirus on Windows or iOS. For more details, visit our Malwarebytes antivirus costs page.

Malwarebytes Company History

Founded in 2008 and based in Santa Clara, California, Malwarebytes is well-known but based in the U.S., a Five Eyes member. This could mean that the government might request customer data. However, Malwarebytes’ strict logging policy reduces this concern.

By 2014, Malwarebytes was downloaded on 250 million computers. In 2016, they had over $100 million in bookings. The company is growing and has not faced major security breaches.

Malwarebytes VPN Apps

Malwarebytes VPN works on iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. Check your system version before buying:

  • Mac: macOS Catalina 10.15.4 or higher
  • Windows: Windows 7
  • iOS: iOS 13 or later
  • Android: Android 9 or higher

Not all older computers will work with Malwarebytes. For example, older MacBooks might not be compatible.

Downloading the Apps

We downloaded the Mac app from the Malwarebytes website since it wasn’t available in the App Store. The same was true for Windows. This was not the easiest process, but we managed.

If you have trouble downloading the app or need more information, try their online support center or chat with a bot. There is no phone support for regular customers, and email support is limited to press or business inquiries.

Bug Bounty Program

If you find a security issue in Malwarebytes products, you could earn between $100 and $1,000, depending on the issue’s severity. Email your find to bug-bounty@malwarebytes.com.

Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes may not offer many subscription choices, but if you need a VPN for a year for a Windows or macOS computer, it’s an affordable option. Try it out for seven days to see if it works for you.

17. Perfect Privacy VPN by Price

There is no such thing as “perfect privacy” online. Whenever you connect to the internet, your data must travel outside your private network. However, you can limit who sees your data by using a VPN. With a VPN, your data is encrypted and only accessible by you and your VPN server.

Perfect Privacy VPN offers this type of service, but you need a subscription to use it. We checked the cost of a subscription ourselves.

Costs

  • 1 month: $12.99
  • 1 year: $9.99 per month
  • 2 years: $8.95 per month

Any Freebies?

Some VPNs offer free options, but Perfect Privacy does not. They don’t give any free months, even if you sign up for two years. Other VPNs sometimes offer free months or special deals. For example, NordVPN gave us three free months with a one-year subscription.

Perfect Privacy did not have such offers, so we were cautious before signing up. We wanted to understand how to cancel and what happens to our money if we do. Here’s what you need to know about their cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy

If you’re not satisfied with Perfect Privacy, you can cancel within a week of purchase to get a full refund. However, there are exceptions. If you paid with a gift card, coupon, or Bitcoin, you cannot cancel. You can only turn off auto-renewal to avoid further charges after your subscription ends. You must also buy your subscription from Perfect Privacy’s website to request a refund.

This policy is similar to many VPNs, but Perfect Privacy’s refund period is shorter. Most VPNs, like Surfshark, offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. We usually test VPNs for at least two weeks, often a month, to ensure they meet our needs.

Make Sure You Compare Prices

Perfect Privacy is well-priced if you need a single-month VPN with strong privacy features and a location outside of major surveillance alliances like Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, and 14 Eyes. For long-term subscriptions, you might find cheaper options. Here are three alternatives:

Pricing

Whether for personal or work use, Perfect Privacy has options:

Personal Use

All Perfect Privacy’s personal use subscriptions provide unlimited simultaneous connections. We chose the one-month plan but could have saved by choosing one or two years.

  • 1 Month: $12.99
  • 1 Year: $9.99 per month
  • 2 Years: $8.95 per month Monthly Rate: $12.99, $9.99, $8.95
    Total Amount Billed: $12.99, $199.99, $214.95
    Savings: 0%, 23%, 31%

These prices are on the high side, with the lowest monthly rate at $8.95. Some VPNs are much cheaper; for example, Private Internet Access charges $2.69 monthly. While we like Perfect Privacy’s service, its pricing is higher compared to others.

Commercial Use

Perfect Privacy does not list business account prices. To get this information, contact them directly through their website or email info@perfect-privacy.com.

Perfect Privacy accepts over 60 payment methods, including:

  • Visa

The Pros

Despite its higher pricing, we found Perfect Privacy to be a good VPN and worth the cost, though not the cheapest. Here’s why:

  • Neutral Territory: Based in Switzerland, Perfect Privacy is in a politically neutral location and cannot be forced to give personal data to the government.
  • Multi-hop: Your web traffic is encrypted multiple times for added security.
  • No Activity Logs: Perfect Privacy does not keep logs of your web activity or IP addresses.
  • Kill Switch: If the VPN disconnects, all your web browsers shut down to protect your data.
  • Torrenting: You can torrent on most servers except in the U.S. and France.
  • Split Tunneling: Allows you to use some traffic on the public network and some on the private network.
  • Military-Grade Encryption: Uses AES-256 and OpenVPN1, very secure encryption methods.
  • Fast Speeds on Mac: Performed well on Mac and Windows with minimal slowdown.
  • Unlimited Simultaneous Connections: Connect all your devices at the same time with one subscription.

Routers with Perfect Privacy Built In

For easier web privacy, you can buy a router with Perfect Privacy built in. This will automatically encrypt traffic for any device connected to that network. Options include:

  • Vilfo VPN router
  • Asus RT-AC3200 TomatoUSB
  • Linksys WRT3200ACM AC3200 DD-WRT
  • Netgear R7000 DD-WRT

Raffles and Giveaways

Perfect Privacy generally only offers giveaways around Christmas. Past giveaways included:

  • Christmas 2019: Two two-year packages, four one-year packages
  • Christmas 2018: One Vilfo router, two Linksys routers, two eBlocker Pro licenses, five one-year packages
  • Christmas 2017: Two Asus routers, two one-year packages, 100 one-month packages
  • Christmas 2016: Two Netgear routers, two one-year packages

Keep an eye out for giveaways in the Christmas season.

Free Tools from Perfect Privacy

Perfect Privacy offers some free tools to check your digital security:

  • IP Address Checker: Ensures your IP address is hidden when connected to the VPN.
  • DNS Leak Test: Checks if your VPN is hiding your web traffic properly.
  • WebRTC Leak Test: Verifies that your private IP address is not exposed through WebRTC.
  • MSLeak Test: For Windows users, checks if your Microsoft accounts are secure.

Apps

Perfect Privacy has apps for Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS. Android and iOS apps are through OpenVPN Connect. The apps have good ratings and are user-friendly.

Customer Support Options

Perfect Privacy does not offer phone support. You can check their FAQs, email them, or use their contact form for help.

Logging Policy

A VPN’s privacy policy is crucial. Perfect Privacy’s policy states:

  • Logs: Number of users on each server (no identity data), usernames, passwords, account expiration dates, and email addresses.
  • No Logs: IP addresses, web traffic, connection times, total bandwidth, and payment information.

Perfect Privacy does not keep your web activity or IP addresses, making it a very private VPN.

Recap

While Perfect Privacy might be more expensive than some VPNs, it offers strong privacy features and is worth considering if privacy is a major concern. For less than $10 a month, it provides good privacy protection and is headquartered outside major surveillance alliances. Your data and web activity are secure with Perfect Privacy.

18. Norton Secure VPN Pricing

Norton is well-known for its antivirus software. You might already have their software on your computer to protect it from malware. But did you know they also offer a VPN? It’s called Norton Secure, and it’s one of the top VPN services this year. It has servers in many countries, offers good speed, and includes ad and tracker blocking to help keep your computer safe.

However, Norton Secure may not be the cheapest VPN, especially if you buy it separately from a Norton antivirus package. After testing Norton Secure for over a month, we created this review to help you decide if it’s a good choice for you.

We’ll first give you an overview of Norton’s pricing, and then explain what is included with these subscriptions.

Costs

Number of DevicesMonthly Cost
1$4.99
5$7.99
10$9.99

How Much Does Norton Secure Cost?

Norton makes it easy to choose a plan that fits your needs. If you have more than one device, you face more risk, so it’s good to have VPN protection for all your devices. We have laptops, tablets, and cell phones, so we needed a plan that covered more than one device.

As VPNs help protect personal data from hackers, especially with more cyberattacks happening as we use technology more, it was important for us to have coverage for all our devices. The monthly prices are average for the industry, and you can save a lot if you choose an annual subscription instead.

Number of DevicesTerm LengthBilling Amount
1Monthly$4.99
1Annual$39.99
5Monthly$7.99
5Annual$39.99
10Monthly$9.99
10Annual$59.99

We chose the 10-device plan with a monthly subscription. If we had paid annually, we could have saved nearly $60. The monthly plan gave us the flexibility to cancel whenever we needed, though it cost a bit more. Our full review includes what we liked and didn’t like about the VPN.

Note: While VPNs are good for hiding your search history and browsing the web privately, they cannot protect you 100% from hackers.

Are There Cheaper Alternatives?

It’s hard to find a VPN that costs less than $4.99 per month. Norton’s price depends on how many devices you want to protect. Some of our top-rated VPNs might not be cheaper, but they offer better value. For example, we preferred NordVPN over Norton Secure because of its better privacy policy and performance.

Is There A Free Trial For Norton Secure VPN?

Unfortunately, there is no free trial for Norton Secure VPN. You need to buy a subscription to try it. The best option is to start with a one-month subscription. If you like it, you can switch to a yearly subscription for better savings. If not, you can cancel the subscription.

However, if this is your first time buying an annual subscription, Norton offers a money-back guarantee for the first 60 days. If you cancel within this period, you’ll get a refund.

Remember, all Norton Secure options require a subscription. If you want a free VPN, check out our list of the best free VPNs. They are safe and free but may not offer the same features as paid VPNs.

Our Favorite Norton Secure Features

Norton’s reputation means their VPN has some strong features. Here are some of the things we liked about Norton Secure VPN:

  • Secure VPN: Norton is known for its security, and its VPN is no exception. They have a great track record for keeping customer data safe.
  • Bank-Grade Encryption: Norton uses AES 256-bit encryption, which is one of the strongest security systems available.
  • Multi-hop: This feature routes your connection through multiple servers, making it harder to track your online activity. However, it is available only with some servers.
  • Anonymous Browsing: Norton lets you browse the web anonymously and uses dynamic IP addresses that change each time you connect.
  • Mobile Access: Even when using public WiFi, like in a coffee shop, Norton Secure VPN keeps you safe.
  • Block Tracking for Ads: Norton blocks ad tracking technologies, so online retailers can’t collect your information.
  • Up to 10 Device Connectivity: Norton allows you to connect up to 10 devices at once, which is great for households with many devices.
  • Streaming: Norton Secure works well for streaming services like Netflix, letting you access shows and movies from other countries.
  • Kill Switch: If the VPN disconnects, the kill switch cuts off your internet connection to prevent exposure to trackers.
  • Split Tunneling: Available on Windows and Android apps, this feature lets you use a local server and VPN at the same time, so you can browse locally while sending work files securely.

Norton Secure VPN might not have every feature out there, but it provides a strong base for users looking for a straightforward, affordable VPN. It also works well with Norton’s other security products. If you choose Norton’s 360 Security package, you get Norton Secure VPN along with other benefits.

A Quick Background on Norton

Norton has a long history in cybersecurity. In 1990, Peter Norton created software to protect computers from viruses spread by floppy disks. By 1998, Norton had developed software to handle the Y2K bug.

Today, Norton is part of the world’s largest civilian cyber intelligence network and operates in over 50 countries. They help protect against viruses, malware, online tracking, attacks on home Wi-Fi networks, identity theft, and more.

Canceling Norton Secure

Canceling Norton Secure VPN is easy. You can cancel without talking to customer service by signing into your account, going to the My Subscriptions tab, and turning off the VPN subscription. If you cancel automatic renewal, you need to manually renew before it expires, or you will lose it.

If you bought Norton Secure VPN within the last 60 days, you can get a refund by contacting Norton support at their hotline: (855) 815-2726.

Recap

We had high expectations for Norton’s VPN service due to its strong reputation in online security. We were pleased with what Norton Secure offers. The flexible plans and ability to protect up to 10 devices make it a good option, especially if you have many devices. Given that U.S. households have an average of 11 connected devices, including seven with screens, the 10-device plan is very useful. We were impressed with the high standards of security and reputation provided by Norton Secure VPN.

19. Kaspersky Secure Connection VPN Pricing

You may know Kaspersky as a top antivirus provider, but their software also includes a VPN to help protect your privacy.

Kaspersky VPN can be bought on its own or as part of a package with their antivirus software. Should you get it? Let’s look at what we found from our testing of Kaspersky VPN and how it compares to other VPN services, focusing on pricing and features.

The second option is a 30-day money-back guarantee. You need to buy a subscription first, but you can get a full refund if you cancel within 30 days.

How to Cancel

By default, Kaspersky’s subscriptions renew automatically. To cancel auto-renewal:

  1. Go to your My Kaspersky account.

  6. Choose a reason for disabling auto-renewal and confirm.

If you bought the VPN from a different provider, you need to cancel auto-renewal through that provider.

What We Liked

Kaspersky VPN has low prices, with a maximum of $4.99 per month. Despite the low price, it offers useful features:

  • Paid plans include a kill switch.
  • It allows Netflix access on U.S. and U.K. servers.
  • Based in Russia, which means it’s not bound by Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or 14 Eyes surveillance agreements.
  • Offers fast speeds, with only a 20% increase in latency on a MacBook Pro.
  • Affordable pricing, starting at $2.50 per month.
  • A one-week free trial.
  • Highly-rated iOS and Android apps.
  • A 30-day money-back guarantee.

Recap

Kaspersky’s VPN offers a lot of value with its low pricing, free trials, and a money-back guarantee. It is worth considering if you want an affordable VPN with a simple and risk-free way to test it.

20. Avast SecureLine VPN Pricing

Avast has joined other antivirus brands like TotalAV, McAfee, and Kaspersky by offering a VPN service. Often, antivirus brands that provide VPNs have confusing prices and packages. If you’re curious about the cost of Avast SecureLine VPN and what’s included in its plans, you’re in the right place. We tested Avast SecureLine ourselves and will explain its pricing, subscription features, and other cost details here. Keep reading to see if Avast is a good choice for your VPN needs.

Subscription Costs

Here’s how much Avast SecureLine VPN costs based on the length of the subscription:

  • 1 year: $59.88
  • 2 years: $95.76
  • 3 years: $143.64

Our Favorite Features

Avast SecureLine has many features, but here are the ones we like best:

  • A free trial that really is free: Avast SecureLine offers a 60-day free trial, not just a few days or a week. You need to enter your credit card details, but you won’t be charged until the trial ends. If you don’t want to continue, make sure to cancel before the trial is over.
  • No logging: Avast SecureLine does not track your Internet activity. Some VPNs do monitor and sell your information, but Avast does not.

More About the Free Trial

If you want to try the 60-day free trial, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Avast’s website and download the VPN client. For the 60-day trial, use a desktop computer (Windows or macOS). The free trial on Android and iOS is only seven days.
  2. Install the VPN client and create an account.
  3. Activate the 60-day free trial.
  4. Provide your payment information. Avast will not charge you until the end of the trial.
  5. Enjoy the VPN for 60 days.

If you like Avast SecureLine, you can let the trial end and you’ll automatically be charged for a one-year subscription. If not, cancel the trial before it expires.

Every Avast subscription from the website also comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you buy a subscription and it doesn’t work out, you can cancel within 30 days for a refund.

Getting the Most for Your Money

Avast SecureLine offers good security and streaming access. If you only need to protect one device, it’s affordable. For two to five devices, the price is still reasonable, but other VPNs offer lower prices for unlimited devices. It’s a good idea to compare VPN prices. Consider comparing Avast to Surfshark or checking out our top VPNs.

Subscription Options

If you decide to buy Avast SecureLine, there are three subscription plans available, each covering up to 10 devices:

  • One Year: $55.08 total ($4.59 per month)
  • Two Years: $105.36 total ($4.39 per month)
  • Three Years: $158.04 total ($4.39 per month)

You may notice that there is no difference in monthly cost between the two-year and three-year plans. The one-year plan is only slightly more expensive per month.

Unlike some VPNs that offer lower monthly rates for long-term plans, Avast’s long-term plans don’t have much of a price difference.

What Avast SecureLine VPN Does

Avast SecureLine VPN has several features:

  • Hide your online activities: Avast uses strong AES-256 encryption to protect your Internet activities. This keeps your activity private from hackers, ISPs, employers, and the government.
  • Hide your IP address: When you connect to Avast’s servers, you share an IP address with other users, making it hard to track your online behavior.
  • Protection over public Wi-Fi: Avast SecureLine protects your data on unsecure networks, such as public Wi-Fi.
  • DNS leak protection: Avast ensures your data is secure and not leaking.
  • Open-source technology for Windows and Android: Avast uses OpenVPN for encryption. It’s trusted and secure, though you don’t need to set it up yourself.
  • Apple compatibility: Avast SecureLine works well with Apple devices using Apple’s technology.
  • Streaming and Torrenting: Avast supports streaming HD content and torrenting.
  • Security for Android TV devices: Avast works with smart TVs and devices like Android TV, Nvidia Shield TV, and Mi Box.
  • Access international content: Avast helps you access content from other countries.

What Avast SecureLine VPN Doesn’t Do

  • No logging websites visited or app usage: Avast doesn’t track your online activity. They only keep connection timestamps and server IP addresses, deleting them after one month.
  • No bandwidth limits: Avast doesn’t restrict your data usage, so you can transfer data at high speeds without limits.

Payment Options

Avast SecureLine VPN accepts several payment methods:

  • Major Credit Cards: MasterCard, Visa, and Discover
  • PayPal
  • AliPay (Only for customers in China)
  • PaySafeCard

Can I Cancel?

Avast SecureLine offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you cancel within this time, you won’t face any penalties. If you cancel a three-year plan after a year and a half, you might not get a refund.

Canceling is straightforward. Avast’s customer service can assist you, or you can fill out a form online if you prefer not to speak to anyone.
